Just five weeks ago, Amy was called to her boss’s office.

A nervous heat radiated through her chest and across every limb, causing her
to fidget uncontrollably.

She was expecting the worst.

And it made her think back to her son Edmond, and her daughter, Chelsea.

They deserve so much better…

But now, their mom was going to fail them.

John cleared his throat and looked soberly at Amy…

“I’m Sorry Amy, The Pandemic Has Hurt The Business.
We’ve Got To Let You Go.”

Amy went limp.

She mumbled something John couldn’t catch and dragged herself up and out of the room.

After packing her things, Amy took the long route home, trying to process what just happened…

...and what was going to happen next.

She'd just paid all her bills.

And that meant…

Her Bank Account Was As Healthy
As A Donut Filled With
Triple-fat Cream On A Keto Diet

There was pasta, chicken, a few eggs, and other items in the house… enough for a couple of weeks if stretched out…

But other necessities were running low, like shampoo, toilet paper and especially
Edmond’s medication.

The next month will be hard.

And it might be a choice between paying bills or being able to eat and afford medication…

“How can I tell the kids…” Amy thought.

She pictured herself getting home, opening the front door…

Seeing Edmond, popping his little head over the old patched up couch her neighbour gave them before moving out. His mousy brown hair spiralling out in every direction…

But despite his messy hair, you couldn’t ignore his sparkly eyes and the smile that oozed joy and cuteness.

Chelsea would be there too. Probably coming out of the kitchen after fixing up something for that evening… She was a good kid. Reliable. Smart. And starting to get to that age where girls like boys and pretty things.

Amy wished she could give her more.

But It Was Just Them

And they’d get through this together.

At least that gave her some warmth.

But it wasn’t long until the reality of her situation came thundering back…

What could she do?

No one was hiring right now.

She’d be lucky to even find a job trimming hedges.

As Amy racked her brain for ideas, one option kept coming back.

It’s something she’d never done before…

And she’d hoped she’d never have to do it.

But her situation was life or death and there was no time to be prideful.

That option? Government assistance.

Except there was another problem with this:

Trinity, one of her friends who’d recently applied for help, said it took almost 10 weeks for hers to arrive…

Even if Amy applied that day, there’s no way she could survive that long.

She Sank Back Into The Seat Of Her Red 1986 Honda Sedan...

Wishing It Would Swallow Her Whole ...And The Nightmare Would End

When Amy got home, she broke the news to Chelsea and Edmond – who seemed to take it well enough.

In the following weeks…

Amy made a habit of getting up early, making a coffee, and perching on the sofa with a direct eyeline to the mailbox.

She hoped the letter confirming her acceptance
for government assistance would come
any day now…

And while waiting, Amy combed through the online job boards…

Either one would be a life saver.

But As Time Went On,
Amy Became More And More Anxious

The letter still had not arrived yet…

And the only letters that did come were filled with bad news like overdue bills and debt notifications…

And then it happened…

It had been over two months since Amy lost her job…

She was doing all she could to hold it together for Edmond and Chelsea.

But shortly after dinner one evening…

While Edmond sat playing on the kitchen floor…

He looked over at Amy with a frown and cried…

The words hit her with the force of a tidal wave, sapping her last remaining strength…

She realized how gaunt and skinny Edmond had become…

His rosey cheeks and cheerful smile, gone…

Replaced with a pasty, grey tint a boy his age (and in our country) should never look like.

Then, it seemed like Amy’s eyes opened and she saw the kitchen for what it really was.

On the counter, piled high, was a stack of letters–stamped with red “DUE NOW” words.

The fridge. The cupboard. And her bank statements. All dry.

They were lucky to still have hot water and wifi…

But It Was All Too Much
And Amy Broke Down,
Right There In Front Of Her Kids

Later that evening…

The kids were in bed, but Amy couldn’t sleep.

She kept thinking about how bad their situation was…

If something didn’t happen quick, they’d be out on the streets with even less food than they had now.

While Amy’s Mind Drifted Off,
Something Caught Her Attention

It was the TV.

On it was a man. His name was Ron Lynch, a local businessman who started a foundation called Intellihelp at the start of COVID.

Ron was a big time advertiser who had worked on multi-million dollar campaigns, like GoPro.

At the start of COVID, he noticed people in desperate trouble. And he wanted to help.

That’s how he and a few friends started Intellihelp.

It’s mission:

To provide a much-needed temporary boost to those who’d suddenly lost their income because of the pandemic…

And help them get back on their feet.

In Their First 6 Months, They’ve Helped Over 7,000 Households…

Providing essential food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and over-the-counter medications.

Especially impressive given that most charities usually get tied up with red tape for months on end.

It sounded amazing. Exactly what Amy needed. But she couldn’t help but feel a bit skeptical. Like it was too good to be true.

Yet, Amy couldn’t deny the success they’d had already.

Grateful messages sprang up all over the screen:

The program ended with the words “Intellihelp – #LoveDelivered. To get help go to
our Facebook page”

When She Saw The Instructions,
Amy Sprang Off The Sofa
And Grabbed Her Phone…

Her shaking fingers punched in I-n-t-e-l-l-i-h-e-l-p.

When she reached the Facebook page, Amy needed to explain her situation, list out her needs and then make a post to request help.

So she put down the common staples: pasta, cereal, bread, some milk and eggs, plus toilet roll, some other toiletries.

Attached her favorite picture of little Edmond and Chelsea…

And pressed “Post”.

Now the tough part: waiting.

Every minute, Amy refreshed the page…

Desperately hoping someone would respond.

But after 45 fruitless minutes… when the clock struck 11.30pm, Amy decided to get some rest.

*Ping!*

A message jolted Amy from her sleep.

It was still dark so Amy had to fumble around for her phone…

But when she finally got hold of it, her eyes went wide.

It was the message she’d been waiting for.

“Hi Amy, my name’s Nick. I live nearby. I can pick up the items you need and drop them by later today?”

Was it real?

Could it really be that easy?

Who’s this Nick?

Amy’s head was spinning–she was only half expecting this Intellihelp thing would actually work…

I mean, she’d been waiting months for the government to provide any sort of help. And they were supposed to be experts at this.

And yet, this “Angel” (Intellihelp call the people who offer help, Intellihelp Angels)…

Had messaged her and was ready to come drop off everything she needed the same day.

Amy quickly responded to Nick and arranged for him to come round later that day.

At 3.15pm, right on time came a…

*Knock* ... *Knock*

A slender man with short-cropped blonde hair and simple clothes appeared.

To Amy, this man could have been a real-life angel.

He dropped off the bags of items…

It was everything Amy had requested… along with a few extra bits Nick – the angel – had thrown in.

And now that everything was laid out on their kitchen table…

Amy stood back in breathless awe.

Nick would never know just how much it would help Amy and her family.

But this was exactly the lifeline she needed…

It allowed Amy to go on another couple of weeks, without worrying about the kids…

And she was able to secure a new job shortly after.
